What this group does

Training

CERT training allows us to respond safely, responsibly, and effectively to emergency situations. DBR residents are welcomed to attend CERT training sessions.

Training schedule

• Training on updated forms, SOP (Standard Operating Procedures)
• New medical information and procedures
• Updates on emergency preparedness procedures and equipment
• Updates on Library available to CERT Members
• Understanding FEMA Grid Maps – especially related to TEAM 17 on landslide areas, liquefaction, and tsunami’s zones.
• Understanding disasters as pertinent to North Olympic Peninsula includes: Earthquakes, tsunami’s, wild fire, landslides, power outages, floods, etc.
• Practice how to talk on a 2-way radio: basic principles- speak clearly, keep it simple to understand, brevity speaking precisely and to the point, mindfulness of security. (Using the military Alpha).

Service

• Assist at local events such as the Sunshine Festival, Irrigation Festival and Lavendar Festival (these events contribute to the operational costs of CERT training and equipment; opportunities to practice/learn useful CERT skills such as radio communication, interfacing with public, situational awareness).
