What is this?

The Shop is a large, heated, well-lit working area equipped with a variety of handheld and power tools. Here members may create, build or repair projects of all sizes.

What's available?

• Work benches
• Hand held tools (rulers, squares, levels, wrenches, tape measures, files, chisels, drills, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, knives soldering guns, dremels, glues and epoxies, and more)
• Electric and Battery operated power tools (saws, grinders, drills, routers, compressor)
• Building materials such as used lumber, steps, and planks are stored on the south and west sides of the shop. These are available for member use.
• A lending library of durable medical equipment (walkers, canes, commodes, shower chairs)
• A few pet carriers upstairs may be borrowed too.
• Shop stewards whose role is to maintain a safe-environment in the common Shop area, monitor the efficient and effective use of the Shop and manage equipment and supplies to assure that they are available and in working condition. Shop Stewards are also responsible for conducting Safety classes for handheld and power tools throughout the year.

Tips and requests

Members are required to complete a Basic Safety and Use class before receiving a key to access the shopl Members are asked not to share shop keys. Shop classes for both handheld and power tools are offered intermittently throughout the year.

Tools may be borrowed from the shop. Please sign them out on the clipboard on the workbench and sign them back in when they are returned. Tools should be returned clean and in the same condition they were in when they were borrowed.

The medical equipment and pet carriers in the upstairs loft need to be signed out too.

Please only leave usable building items that have had nails and screws removed and that are cut into usable pieces outside the shop. (Propane tanks, vehicle parts, etc. should not be left disposed of at the shop.)

The white thermostat on the post at the left end of the bench just inside the Shop door has an on/off switch. Always turn the heat and the lights off when you leave the Shop.

If you are working on a project over time, please label it with your name, Site number, and the dates your project will be in the Shop.

Workspace is limited in the Shop. Please do not store items there that are not being used for works-in-progress.

If a tool is in need of repair, please place an “Out of Order” tag on it (available in the box by the door). Be as specific as possible about what is wrong and also make a not on the “Repair/Request/Replace” sheet (on the bench).

Please clean up your workspace before leaving the shop.
